“Assalamualaikum Ayuni. It was almost two decades ago when you were born in Kuala Lumpur general hospital. Your name means “beauty” and your mother and I felt from the very beginning that we were immeasurably grace by Allah to be your parents, but in time we felt more favoured to be your friends. I felt impressed to write this letter to express my deep love and respect for you as a person and to encourage you with a specific word about your personhood.
There are many things I admire in your character including your Imaan, your perseverance, your kindness, your selfless, your loyalty, your generosity, your wisdom, and countless other excellent qualities. There are so many additional attributes you possess including your determination that cause us incredible joy!
I would write a veritable book summarizing what your mother and I think and believe about you. We know, you are not perfect, nor are we, but it is Allah’s grace and mercy in our lives that have thought our family to be quite comfortable in the skin, personality and temperament given to each of us.
Ayuni, the time has flown so fast. It’s like I blinked once and we were celebrating your 1st birthday. I blinked again and you were off to school. Blinked, and you made us proud as you can read Quran already. Then, you entered secondary school, and now you are preparing yourself to UNIMAS. Each of the milestones was very exciting.
It’s hard for us to admit it but this birthday means that you’re one minute close to leaving us. As of today, you will be a graduate and off you go to follow your dreams. I am not melancholy because I worry about you. I know that whatever you do, it will be fantastic. I am melancholy because I want to keep you close, not to let you go.
As usual, as much as you are tired in listening to my stories, you must be tired reading my letter too. My final request now is that you follow the ethic of Fatimah, the daughter of our prophet p.b.u.h.
Fatimah inherited the genius and wisdom, the determination and will power, the piety and sanctity, the generosity and benevolence, the devotion and worship of Allah, the self sacrifice and hospitality, the for balance and patience and the knowledge and nobility disposition of her illustrious father both with deeds and words. Her generosity and compassion to the poor was such that no destitute or beggar ever returned from the door unattended.
Well, if that is too much for you, at least try your best to do to the maximum, insyaAllah I pray the best for you saying.”
Love,
Your Dad.
